Friday Favorite: Burt’s Bees Products

I am in love with just about everything that this company makes. Their ingredients are all natural, smell AMAZING , and they really do what they claim. Here are a few of my favorites.

Richly Replenishing Cocoa & Cupuaçu Butters Body Lotion– I used this during my whole pregnancy. I would slather this stuff on like it was liquid gold, hoping that the cocoa butter would work it’s preventative magic on my ever expanding skin. Well, nine months and a baby later, I am excited to report that it worked! Three cheers for no stretchmarks! You can buy this at Walmart or Target.

Baby Bee Multipurpose Ointment– This ointment is wonderful for treating dry patches of skin. I rub this on Eli after his baths and it rehydrates his skin, leaving it soft and smooth. It has a sweet honey scent that is mild and not overpowering. I have also been using it on his bum  to prevent diaper rash because it forms a barrier to protect against wetness. It is petroleum, phthalate, and paraben-free, 100% natural, and cloth diaper safe!

Baby Bee Diaper Ointment– Eli had a wicked rash two weeks after he was born. I tried 3 other creams with no luck. Then I found this. It is thick, but spreads well and significantly helped his rash within 2 diaper changes. This cream is good for healing a flared up diaper rash, the former for preventing. It does have a strong herbal smell, but I much prefer it over a medicinal one.

Beeswax Lip Balm– This has been my favorite chapstick for years. It is the only one I have found that sinks into my lips and truly moisturizes. The mint flavor is a total bonus, making your lips tingle and nose jingle!

Baby Bee Shampoo and Wash– All I can say about this stuff is Mmmmm! It has the most delicious smell, especially on baby! It is mild, tear-free, chemical free, and naturally good for your all your little one’s precious parts!

Try these out, you won’t be sorry!

Newborn Survival Kit

When I was pregnant, I remember LOVING to read reviews on baby products. Being a first time Mom, I had no clue the things I would need to raise a newborn. It would sometimes feel overwhelming sorting through and choosing products…the industry makes you believe that you need a TON of things in order to survive. The truth is (in my opinion), especially if you are breastfeeding, there is little that you really need in the first few weeks of your baby’s life. Some of these items are things that people have recommended and others are things that I have stumbled upon and love. Take this post with a grain of salt- every baby is different, but this is what has kept my sweet boy happy theses past couple weeks.

Boppy– this pillow has been essential while breastfeeding. It helps prop the baby up and gives your arms a break. I have also used it to prop Eli up next to me on the couch.

Tiny Time App– this timer has been a lifesaver during the first few weeks. For all you veteran moms, you know how cloudy your head can be after giving birth and running off next to no sleep. The timer keeps me sane. It acts like a stopwatch and counts up to let you know how long it has been since your last feeding, diaper change, and nap. There is a bonus counter that you can use for whatever you want. I keep track of when I need to take my medicine. If you are breastfeeding, it also keeps track of which breast you last nursed from.

Thirsties wipes– We are cloth diapering and  are also using cloth wipes. In the hospital, we used disposables and it took about 6-7 to get Eli completely clean. Since we have been home, we are able to clean an entire poopy diaper with just 1 of these wipes! I run it under warm water before each change. Eli loves the warmth, and I love the efficiency! I have also used these as washcloths and burp cloths. They are the perfect size and are really absorbent. We started with about 18, and I recently ordered another 12. They also come in girl colors.

Land of Nod receiving blankets– You can never have enough receiving blankets. We use them to cover Eli in his swing, carseat, while I breastfeed…the list goes on and on. I didn’t know which kind of receiving blankets I would prefer before I had my little man, but I can confidently say, these are my absolute favorite. They are organic cotton, the perfect weight, and oober soft. I do not like the texture of flannel receiving blankets. I think I will use my aiden and anais blankets more in the summer when its warm. For now, I’m loving these.

Hannah Anderson socks and sleepers-My mom and sister told me about these sleepers and boy am I glad they did! Not only are they ADORABLE, but they are soft, fit well, and will grow as Eli grows. My favorite feature is the zipper that goes from the bottom left pant leg all the way up to the top. This zipper style makes for quick diaper changes, and less hassle in the dark, half asleep, with a screaming baby!

Prince Lionheart Diaper Depot– I found this idea on a blog, and thought it was genius. It fits perfectly on the side of our co-sleeper and holds all of our diaper essentials. It will fit on a pack and play. This depot lets me change him in another room other than the nursery. It would be great for those who have a nursery upstairs and keep their pack and play downstairs!

Arms Reach co-sleeper– I absolutely love this co-sleeper. it attaches to the side of our bed and gives me peace of mind in the middle of the night. Eli is right next to me, and I can easily reach for him when he cries and needs to feed. When Eli gets older, the bed can convert to a pack and play.

Graco Sweetpeace Soothing Swing– This swing has kept us sane, mainly because it gives our arms a break! The first swing we put him in, he screamed like it was a torture device. This one, unlike the first, swings in a “c” motion, much like a mother’s natural back and forth swing when she hold’s her baby in her arms. The seat also detaches so you can rock the baby while still in the seat. Drew and I will usually rock him while in the seat, then place it on the swing and he stays asleep for hours. It has 6 speed settings, multiple sound settings, and an ipod dock for your own music. IT IS WONDERFUL.

Blow dryer- Ahh the blow dryer. Originally, we used this on the cool setting to help dry out Eli’s umbilical cord stump during diaper changes, but we found that he LOVED the sound. It is like white noise, and puts him in an immediate trance. This has also been really helpful in airing out diaper rashes. I don’t know if it will work for all babies, but it worked for this one!

Carters Keep Me Dry Flannel Lap Pads– Little boys pee…everywhere…without regard…usually right as you take the diaper OFF. This means that the change pad has the potential to get dirty during every diaper change. Because I have enough laundry to do, and a limited number of covers, these lap pads are my saving grace. I place one under him during a change, and if it gets soiled, I just put it in with the diapers to wash.

Maxi Cosi Mico Carseat– This is Eli’s bed, rocker, soother, and snuggler. He loves his carseat, and so do mommy and daddy. It is the only thing we found that he will sleep in without waking himself up every few minutes. He is one of the rare babies that HATES to be swaddled, or put on his back. He is much more content if he is reclined, in a semi-upright position. So without this carseat, we wouldn’t be sleeping through the night. On a more superficial note, the carseat itself is really cute, and comes in a lot of color options. It is one of the lightest yet safest carseats out there, which is wonderful for someone like me who doesn’t regularly lift a set of dumbbells.

Car Seat Canopy– Because it is cold and flu season, I am nervous to take Eli out to any public place, but some trips are simply inevitable. This canopy gives me a little more peace of mind. It covers him completely, and prevents strangers from getting too close, or touching the baby while we are out and about.

Petunia Pickle Bottom Boxy Backpack Diaper Bag– You have to carry a lot of stuff when you’re toting around a baby. The diaper bag is essential. This is the one that I have and so far, I love it. It is water repellent, has lots of storage, a diaper changing station built in the front, and the option to wear it as a backpack. It’s also super cute!

So those are my top favorite newborn items. I am sure they will change as he does, but for now, this is what is getting us through!
